Swedesboro was settled in the mid 1600’s by a small group of Swedes and Finns. The land was farmed because it was rich with wood and fertile soil. Swedesboro has the oldest existing log cabin, the Nothnagle Log Cabin which was moved from its original location along the Raccoon Creek to the beautiful New Sweden Park at the edge of the Trinity “Old Swedes” Church Cemetery. The great grandson of the original cabin owner, John Morton, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Old Swedes Church is the oldest church in Gloucester County founded in 1703. Downtown Swedesboro offers a variety of shopping and dining including my new favorite place for lunch called the Red Hen.
